The gong is one of the very first musical instruments ever created, and in its many tones is found the sound of creation, the sound of “Om”. Here is a 15-minute Gong Meditation VIDEO! Just lay down, close your eyes, relax & release!
The gong is a healing instrument, working through the vibrations of sound to activate our body’s ability to heal at a cellular level! The gong and Reiki work very nicely together.
At a typical gong meditation, we often sit in a chair or lay comfortably on the floor with a pillow and blanket, allowing the vibrations of the gong to wash over us and enter in through our chakras. This is also referred to as a “Gong bath”. Many people relax so deeply that they fall asleep!
Because the tones and vibrations of the gong do not follow a predictable pattern like other musical instruments, the mind cannot make sense of it and must give up, giving way to the gong. This is when the healing begins! Even those sleeping receive the benefit, as the gong does not need the conscious mind to do its work! Yogi Bhajan is credited with bringing the very unique, and back then very secretive, practice of Kundalini Yoga to the United States and with it, the Gong!
“The gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind. There is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind – the sound of the Gong. It is the first sound of the universe. It is the basic creative sound. To the mind, the sound of the gong is like a mother and father that gave it birth. The mind has no power to resist a gong that is well played”.
~ Yogi Bhajan
A gong bath meditation can help you to release things like emotions and fears you may have been holding on to, which have been causing illness or dis-ease in your body. You may not even consciously know what you need to release, just set the intention to release and heal what needs healing, and let the gong do the rest!
